Meridian Historical Village Hosts Camp For Kids

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Schools out for the summer but the Meridian Historical Village made sure that kids could still get a history lesson.

Their Turning Back The Pages Day Camp gave kids from 3rd to 6th grade an opportunity to immerse themselves in history for 5 days.

Friends of Historical Meridian Executive Director Patrick Reynolds said “They're getting to use the buildings and learn about history in a pretty hands-on way."

One example of this is that campers learned how to weave like the colonists did in the 1800s.

Renee Tierney is the Friends of Historic Meridian secretary.

She said, "We're learning about what it was like in the past when people were making their own fabric and the fact that when you made fabric, you can put your own personal touches."

Tierney said that this camp is a fun outlet for her.

"This is what I what I actually live for," she said. "It's wonderful to come here for a week and just do the things that I know kids will like to do."
