MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - At the June 4th Meridian Township Board meeting, the annual report for both Haslett Library and Okemos Library were presented, both libraries are part of Capital Area District Libraries (CADL).

Ann Chapman is the Head Librarian for the Haslett Library who spoke about the types of services the Haslett Library has provided for patrons and how much of a profound effect it has had on them in terms of ambiance and parking-friendly spaces. Additionally, it has provided weekly, free homework help sessions affiliated with MSU Service learning, a service allowing college students to receive credit for tutoring kids in their classes.

The Haslett library has also helped people join computer conversations through helping them understand how to use technological devices like cell phones and improving their basic computer skills like utilizing search engines such as Google, cutting and pasting text, and using the Internet.

The presentation wrapped up with Chapman thanking Parks and Recreation Director LuAnn Maisner and Facilities Superintendent Dennis Antone for installing a Storywalk in Orlando Park on May 13th, the Storywalk will be open the entire season.

The Haslett Library will also be participating in the Celebrate Meridian Festival at the end of the month on June 29th in the Historical Village. CADL will also be bringing LINC's Little Reading Railroad and giving free train-rides to families attending the festival.

Supervisor Ronald J. Styka, Treasurer Phil Deschaine and Clerk Brett Dreyfus all commended the success of the Haslett Library by providing a diverse community and after school programs for kids.

Betsy Hull, Head Librarian of the Okemos Library shared with Board members how the library is more than just a place with books. Rather it brings the community together with different programs such as a Ukulele Club, Okemos High School Seniors volunteering at their annual cleanup project and a jewelry program offered by the Cancer Center in the MSU Breslin Center.

Finally, Scott Duimstra, who is the Executive Director of CADL, shared how valuable the libraries are to him. "We value our partnership with Meridian Township and those libraries are gems to the community and we love the support we get."
