MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Meridian Township was among 45 communities to receive a Wellhead Protection Grant through the Department of Environmental Quality for $70,000 to go towards preventing contaminates from entering the ground water supply.

"The grant will be used in the case for a program called by-product synergy which is working with manufacturers and businesses throughout the Lansing area, since all of the ground water is co=mingled in this area, to help prevent any contamination from getting into the ground water to begin with," said Clyde Dugan, Manager of the East Lansing-Meridian Water and Sewer Authority.

The grant will help limit industrial wastes and ensure the waters purity by stopping by-products from entering the ground water rather than trying to de-contaminate after the fact.
