MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Several Okemos High School students took their graduating celebrations to the fields. Early Friday morning (May 16th) five students wearing ski masks scribbled graffiti on the walls of Okemos High School that contained racial slurs, obscene drawings, and "SENIORS 2014."

A staff member from the cleaning department spotted the masked graffiti sprayers running to the tennis courts. Police were called to the scene. A patrol from the Sheriff's Department were able to stop their getaway car.

The five suspects are not all graduating seniors. They were punished by Okemos High School following the student-parent handbook. They are also facing criminal charges.

Meridian Township Police Lieutenant Greg Frenger said, "[they are facing] malicious destruction of property...a misdemeanor."

According to Michigan law, malicious destruction of property is punishable by up to one year in prison or a fine of up to $2,000 with the chance the fine could be tripled by the amount of damage caused on the high school.

It took one hour for the damage to be cleaned up.
