MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Meridian Township Park Commission recently heard a proposal to implement a natural lakeshore buffer in the Historical Village Pond.
The buffer would be made of boulders and other plant life to help deter geese and intercept water runoff pollutants. The design would be 15 feet wide and encompass the current fishing dock.
"I mean tall stuff is not really good behind fisherman. Strategic placement within the design is great," said Mark Stephens, Meridian Township Park Commissioner.
Stephens, who also volunteers at township fishing events, said tall plants could be a problem when casting a fishing line.
The project is currently awaiting certification from the Natural Wildlife Federation.
