MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - On Friday, January 29, Harris Nature Center held a Starlight Snowshoe. This was a self-guided snowshoe walk on the trails of HNC.
People participating had the option to bring their own snowshoes, or rent a pair from HNC for $10.
Allison Goodman, Park Naturalist says, “The purpose of this event is for everyone to just have fun and get outside at night. We don’t go outside in nature at night very often, and when the trails are snowy and the stars are out it’s really beautiful. ”
HNC has held snowshoe events in the past, but for the last couple of years there has not been any. HNC has another starlight snowshoe planned to come up in February.
Goodman says, “it is a good work out! You can burn 400 to 1,000 calories in an hour of snowshoeing.”
