MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The property of the former Central Fire Station location has been rezoned from a residential to a commercial property at the Township Board meeting on Jan. 20.

The property, located at 2150 Clinton St, has been a topic of discussion for quite some time. The former Central Fire station was closed down due to poor conditions last year, and the Township is moving forward with building a new station at the corner of Okemos Road and Central Park Drive.

Rezoning the property as commercial will match the commercial zoning of The MARC next door, and will also give the Township an edge when selling the property.

"In the next few months hopefully we will see these two properties put up for sale for some exciting redevelopment opportunities in our downtown Okemos," said Meridian Township Treasurer Julie Brixie.

The Board unanimously approved the rezoning, and will further discuss the sale of the property at a future Township Board meeting.
