FEMA Firefighter Grant Approved

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - At the October 2nd Township Board meeting, the Board unanimously approved the consent agenda which included a promise to match $94,000 to receive the FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant.

The $94,000 amount that the township is paying is 10% of the $940,000 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Chief Hamel details the grant in his letter to the Board, "The purpose of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant is to enhance the safety of the public and firefighters with respect to fire and fire-related hazards. The funds provide critically needed resources that equip and train emergency personnel to recognized standards, enhance operational efficiencies, foster interoperability, and support community resilience."

The Meridian Township Fire Department would receive a Ladder Truck worth the majority of the grant, $800,000.

$50,000 of Extrication Equipment for helping to free people trapped after a car accident.

A Computer Aided Dispatch system to help streamline information during emergencies that costs $80,000 and the final $10,000 for Health and Wellness.
