UPDATE: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - According to the DNR, Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD) has been the cause of nearly 13,000 deer deaths amongst thirty counties. The outbreak is the worst in known history and has caused the DNR to limit the number of antler-less deer licenses allowed this hunting season.

Kirk Briggs, avid deer hunter, says that despite the fact that EHD is not transmittable to humans, he would probably not eat a deer that had EHD. He mentioned that the land he hunts on has been less popular for deer sightings, but that this could be due to the drought and lack of vegetation in the area.

Meridian Township has seen a high deer population and has attempted to rectify this because of the deer-car collisions in the township. EHD, while not ideal, does counter-balance overpopulation. However, the number of deer is still expected to remain high despite the higher number of dying or dead deer.
