Meridian Township Fire Department Hosts Fire Prevention Open House

Meridian Township Fire Department Hosts Fire Prevention Open House

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - On Saturday October 13th, the Meridian Township Fire Department hosted an open house and invited the public to learn about fire safety with the local firefighters during National Fire Prevention Week.

Many residents brought their kids to the Open House. Kids had the chance to sit inside a fire-truck, spray the fire hose and tour the Central Fire Station. Firefighters also demonstrated car cutting, explained how a smoke detector works and practiced evacuation exercises in the smoke trailer.

“The core of everything we do is fire prevention and really making sure that we are teaching kids how to be safe at home, how to have a way out of your house if something catches on fire, and just have the knowledge at their fingertip that they are able to use in case of emergency,” said Fire Inspector Tavis Millerov.

Parents believe that the open house is a great opportunity for them to learn about the local fire department from the other side.

“I think this is a great program they have, lots of fun thing for them to do and learn from. I am happy to do it and hopefully again next year,” mentioned a resident.
