Meridian Township Receives Green Community Recognition

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - During the Meridian Environmental Commission meeting on Wednesday, October 3rd, the Commission heard a report from Leroy Harvey, the Recycling & Energy Coordinator for Meridian Township, that the Township had achieved a silver level ranking from Michigan Green Communities during it's annual meeting in Grand Rapids.

The ranking stems from an application to Michigan Green Communities requesting a review of the green initiatives that Meridian Township has in place.

Leroy and Commissioner John Sarver were the representatives from Meridian Township.

The greater capitol area as a whole was well represented with people attending from Board of Water of Light and surrounding communities.

"Communities are graded in a number of areas, including what they're doing with the environment, with energy, with water, with protecting natural resources, with recycling. The Green Communities initiative is designed to recognize communities but also educate communities about what they can do in their operations."

The Environmental Commission is very pleased with it's past efforts and is working hard to achieve gold status.
