Meridian Township Hosts 20th Annual Police Citizens’ Academy

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - On Thursday, September 13th, Meridian Township Police Department held their second class of this year's Police Citizens' Academy which took place at the Public Safety Building at Meridian Township Police Department. 2018 is the 20th year the Meridian Township Police Department is hosting the academy.

The program consists of classroom and hands-on instruction about the criminal justice system and the Department’s role in the community.

“We talked about my canine partner Yukon which is one of our police canines within the department,” said Meridian Township Police Officer Andy Tobias.

This meeting gives attendees the opportunity to gain knowledge about the police canine operation in the department including some of the topics like canine training, area search, and tracking.

“Criminal is criminal for reasons,” Officer Scaccia said.

During the presentation, Scaccia also shared some practical suggestions about personal safety and home safety to the attendees.

The program is open to the citizen in the community from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm every Thursday evening from September 6 through November 8. Everyone is encouraged to participate If you interested to learn more about the Meridian Township Department.
