MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Meridian Township participated in National Bring Your Child to Work Day (also known as Take Our Sons and Daughters to Work Day), on Thursday, April 26, 2018. The national event, which is held yearly on the fourth Thursday in April, promotes parents bringing their children into their workplace to understand what they do. Six Meridian Township employees participated in Township's first hosting of this event.
Although the children brought to Meridian Township didn't experience a full day at their parents' offices, they still toured and explored three different, but equally important, areas of the Township.
Their day started at the Service Center in the Nancy L. Moore Park, where they saw the repair bays and the garage where a number of Township vehicles (like salt trucks and street sweepers), are kept. They then moved on to the Municipal Building, where they explored the HOMTV studio before the weekday newscast and had a visit from Retiring Police Chief Hall.
Their final stop was the Central Fire Station, where they were able to climb into a fire truck and one of the the emergency response vehicles before learning how to shoot a fire hose. Each stop had various activities related to the building that they were visiting and typically included a stop by their parents' office.
Meridian Township hopes to continue Bring Your Child to Work Day in the coming years and to have it grow with more employees bringing their children in.
