Food Pantry Jazz Benefit Concert at Haslett Community Church
HASLETT - Jazz music soared through the Haslett Community Church sanctuary on Tuesday, April 10th.
The cost of admission to this concert is a donation to Haslett Community Church Food Bank.
Judy Connelly, the Choir Director of Haslet Community Church said, “This concert is help to raise a little money for our food bank. Michael Dease, who is part of the Jazz Department at MSU, suggested bringing his students out to play for us. They are doing a concert of good old jazz. The funds we raise go directly to the food bank. They donate their time and talents to make this happen. Donates would be either cash, or donations of food, non-perishable, that will go into our food bank, and be distributed to people in the community. ”
Michael's wife, Gwendolyn Dease, who is a MSU faculty member, started this idea of benefit concert a few years ago.
Michael Dease said, “My wife and I are long-time members of this church. They have a very open and supportive attitude toward the arts in the area. We’re very fortunate to have their support and the space, and to help contribute towards the food drive here.”
The food pantry in Haslett Community Church has been a part of the Greater Lansing Food Bank for over 30 years. On average, it assist 75 families per month.
