EAST LANSING - Michigan State University Students hosted an annual event entitled, 'Take Back The Night' on Tuesday afternoon on campus at MSU's Union.

The event is dedicated to shedding light on sexual and domestic abuse. Students and members of the Greater Lansing Area were involved during the all day event.

"Take back the night as a whole is kind of a national event that happens. A lot of universities put events on during the month of April because April is Sexual Assault Awareness month," said Tess Nurenberg who help co-coordinate Tuesday's event. "So specifically this year we're kind of trying to really bring out in the light what's been going on on this campus. And we're kind of just trying to give survivors a safe space to talk."

Activities and events taken place that day included, a keynote speaker, survivor speak outs, resource fairs, workshops, and a trauma informed self defense class to help survivors feel safer.

"I came out today because I like to advocate for women and men who are being taken advantage of for my own personal experience and my profession as a social worker," said Central Michigan University student Audrey Morse who came down to support the all day event.

The event happens once a year and encourages all to come out and show their support.
