LANSING - On Tuesday, July 18th a press conference was held in the lobby of Lansing's City Hall featuring several local organizations and statewide officials.

After Lansing Police responded to a hate crime on July 5, 2017 involving a 47-year old Hispanic male, community members took immediate action in planning a public discussion.

Several citizens are concerned for their safety because the action of hate has never been a reflection of Greater Lansing as it is a sanctuary city.

Prominent legislators such as Virg Bernero, Mayor of Lansing and Michael Yankowski, Lansing Chief of Police acknowledged that Lansing does not tolerate hate crimes and LPD takes situations like this very seriously.

"We do not condone nor do we accept a single act of hatred against any individual in our city," said Bernero.

Police are working to release a sketch on the suspect very soon and a one thousand dollar reward will be awarded to the eye witness that comes forward.
