Audible Signals Approved for Okemos/Jolly Intersection

Audible Signals Approved for Okemos/Jolly Intersection

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Township Board adopted the resolution to install audible signals on all four corners of the Okemos and Jolly Road intersection at their June 20 meeting.

It was a 6-0 vote in favor of the new installations. Township clerk Brett Dreyfus was absent from the meeting.

The resolution was developed to improve the opportunities for people with disabilities to safely cross the busy intersection.

The resolution also included the support to install a north/south pedestrian crossing on the east side of the intersection.

"This is a real concern for the commission and I am glad to be in support of this," said Board Trustee Phil Deschaine. "Again, this reflects the work being done by the transportation commission to recommend this to the Board."

Construction is already underway at the intersection with the development of right turn lanes being added northbound to eastbound and southbound to westbound.

The Meridian Transportation Commission brought the issue of the lack of audible signals at the intersection back on the April 27 Township Board meeting.

Since then, the proposal for the new installations have received the support from many Township residents.
