East Lansing Schools Bond Proposal Before Voters in May

EAST LANSING - On April 12, 2017 there was a meeting held in East Lansing at the Hannah Community Center. The purpose of the meeting was to introduce the scope of the 2017 elementary bond proposal for the East Lansing School District.

If you have young children in the community then you are probably aware of the current conditions of the elementary schools around the district. "We don't like to tell you that they're deteriorating because our staff has done an incredible job of maintaining them and keeping them safe for our students, but they are in serious need of replacement," says President of East Lansing Board of Education, Nell Kuhnmuench.

The meeting was held by the League of Women Voters to give an administrator, school board member, building principal and teacher an opportunity to present current exterior and interior building issues, on behalf of schools across the district.

According to Dori Ley Ko, Acting Superintendent/Director of Curriculum Instruction and Assessment, "the scope of this elementary bond proposal is $93.77 million proposal that will rebuild 5 of our elementary buildings. It will rebuild Donley, Glencarin, Marble, Pinecrest, and Whitehills." One of the main focuses will be classroom capacity which will equalize enrollment in each building.

This bond will be in front of voters at the May 2nd Special Election.
