Park Master Plan Public Hearing

Park Master Plan Public Hearing

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - On Tuesday Feb. 14th, the Park Commission held a public hearing to discuss the finalization of the 5-Year-Master Plan. Last year, a survey was held for residents to input any comments and or suggestions that they had about the previous Master Plan.

Doug Schultz, a landscape architect, also spoke at the public hearing and said, "over 75 percent of residents who get their information, get it from the website or family fun guide, our goal of the Master Plan is to provide a fun and welcoming atmosphere."

LuAnn Maisner, the Meridian Township Director of Parks & Recreation, read off several town member comments/suggestions during the meeting. Some of the comments that residents had for the Master Plan was to make Meridian Township more of a fun place to be during the winter and to also engage the business community to be more winter friendly.

Suggestions were to possibly have heated benches and sidewalks in parks. Also to maybe include more street lights throughout parks at night. Lastly, one suggestion that stood out was to bring outdoor experiences to the blind by including a braille trail. Park Commissioners took all suggestions into consideration when convening the meeting around 8:30 pm to reconvene March 14th, 2017, A copy of the minutes can be found at the Meridian Township website as well as the drafted Master Plan.
