Costco Development Continues to be
Discussed among East Lansing Boards

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Cutting costs and buying in bulk, are two standards of the supermarket chain, Costco. And Meridian Township is going through quite the process to make the big box store a standard in East Lansing.

A process that began with the Township Board re-zoning the once-upon four winds golf course, located at 5800 Park Lake Road. This involved amending an agreement that now needs approval from the Planning Commission before the project can move forward.

While bargain-hunters wait for a final stamp of approval, local businesses have been weighing in.

Maribel Ovalle is a waitress at Fiesta Charra restaurant which is next door to the proposed site for Costco. Ovalle said she think the development would benefit the Township and bring in more business/customers, to her work.

"I've talked to a couple customers about it and I know they are really excited because they go to the Flint area for it.," she said. "I guess it's a good business so it should bring a lot of people in. It should definitely help us out, because since it's going to be so close they have no choice but to come by us too."

We've been told the project is tentatively scheduled to be at the East Lansing Planning Commission on October 12th for a recommendation on the re-zoning of the property.
