MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Township Board voted unanimously to authorize and implement an emergency storm, damage, and debris clean-up program during their July 19th meeting.

The Emergency Brush Pick-Up Program, which officially began on Monday, July 18, is a response to the July 8th storm damage, which the Board considers to be a reoccurring issue.

Board members said they've noticed neighborhood streets blocked by downed trees and power lines, and brush piled up in residents' front yards. The plan would help residents clean up the debris more quickly.

The cost of the program is $30,000-$45,000.

Currently, the Township outsources brush removal services from two local landscaping and tree removal companies, but Assistant Township Manager/Director of Public Works & Engineering Derek Perry said they're also investigating different types of equipment that can expedite brush removal within the Township.

Brush pick-up is expected to last for 4-5 weeks, but residents who want trees removed from their properties are encouraged to contract with a local tree company since tree removal is not a part of the Township's program.
