MSU Prepares for Safe Back to School
Season

EAST LANSING - The Fall semester at Michigan State University will begin on Monday, August 29, 2016.

A student's time away from home can be an exciting time, but Captain Doug Monette of the MSU Police reminds students to always consider their personal safety. "Personal safety is something that we take very seriously at MSU," says Captain Monette, To help maintain personal safety, he encourages everyone to know their surroundings.

It is very important to become familiar with campus and walk with friends. In the event that you are alone, walk in well-lit areas. There are many services and resources for students to take advantage of. One option in particular is CATA's night owl service where students have safe transportation provided to them after hours (2AM-7AM). In addition, MSU offers free self-defense classes through the intramural sports department.

Don't forget traffic safety! With traffic safety comes pedestrians crossing on the sidewalks, bicyclist, moped drivers, etc. All of these things must be taken into consideration regarding traffic safety at MSU. It is highly recommended that students take into consideration the "Student parking and Driving Regulations" handbook.
