Upcoming National Night Out

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Bringing together communities and the ones who are sworn to protect is just one of the key principles of the annual National Night Out event. On the first Tuesday of August, more than 16,000 communities will participate in building a bond with the their police.

For over 20 years Meridian Township has been one of the thousand communities involved with the program. Informing the public about various police and fire department programs.

Through socializing, fun activities, festivals and block party style events the National Night Out is sure to bring in a large crowed this year. Proving that neighborhood watch is much more than sitting behind closed doors, but getting out, being involved, and building a connection with the local police.

Assistant Chief of Police, Ken Plaga has been apart of National Night Out for many years. Being a strong advocate for the annual program, Plaga said "Neighborhoods take a stand against crime, it is a support for neighbors to get to know each other, making relationships with your police department, and making relationships with your neighbors. Because the best crime preventative is neighbors knowing each other and looking out for each other."
