Redi-Ride Review Committee Examines Capacity Issues

Redi-Ride Review Committee Examines
Capacity Issues

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Meridian Township Redi-Ride Review Committee held a meeting on May 26th to continue discussions on improvements to the Redi-Ride system.

The overall topic of this meeting was the issue of capacity and how to fix it. The problem with capacity with regards to Redi-Ride is that there are more people who want to use the service than there are rides available.

The Redi-Ride service is a busing program which allows residents of Meridian Township to get driven between locations within the Township. In order to use the system, residents must make a reservation for where they want to be picked up and where they want to be taken four hours before they would like to be picked up.

The types of cancellations, trips that students take after school, and a grandfathering of a prior year-long reservation were briefly discussed, but the main point of discussion was the proposed penalty system for reservations that are canceled too late or are not met at all. The committee discussed at length what constitutes a "no-show," theoretical definitions of an "untimely cancellation," and what constitutes a timely cancellation.

The next meeting of the Redi-Ride Review Committee will be held on Thursday, June 16 at 3:00 pm in the Town Hall Room of the Meridian Township Municipal Building.
