MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, MICHIGAN - Selling or buying a home can be an exciting process for most people.

But, while what can be an exciting time can also be a stressful time. In order to make the home buying and selling process easier, there are some factors to consider first.

According to Lisa Yonkus, realtor at Coldwell Banker Hubbell Briarwood, she said curb appeal is very important in the process.

"People are looking at homes through several different websites, and when they find the addresses, they're driving by and giving us a call to get inside," Yonkus said. "It's important to keep the outside of your home very well manicured in order to get to those buyers to slow down and give us a call."

But, Jeff Peck, broker and CEO of J.S. Peck Real Estate, views the process slightly differently and says many people are more focused on doing research online.

"Usually what happens is they get on the internet, they're looking at one of the real estate's website, looking at the homes, looking at roughly what's inside the home with video tours and photos," Peck said. "People want to make sure the home meets their needs and that the home is in the right area."

In addition to having a desirable curb appeal, homeowners can do things on the inside such as renovations to kitchens or bathrooms or simply updating things.

"Maybe upgrade some appliances, maybe new linoleum,"
Jeff Peck, broker and CEO of J.S. Peck Real Estate said. "Again it depends on the year, it depends on the amount of money that would be needed to do that and the area."

Other factors to consider include number of bedrooms, bathrooms, square footage, and whether a home has a finished or unfinished basement. Factors such as these determine how much a seller is able to list their house for as well as how much a potential buyer is willing to spend.

But, while there are many factors to consider when buying or selling it home, at the end of the day people want to go through houses that they can imagine one day calling their own.
