Game

OKEMOS - Chippewa Middle School student eighth grader, Jasmine Clerkley, played in the 2016 Elite Girls Basketball All-American Basketball Game in Indianapolis on April 3.

Clerkley said they lost by two in the last few seconds, with a layup by the other team with five seconds left in the game.

She scored 20 points in the game.

The top eighth grade players from all over the country were invited to play in the game that took place at one of the local high schools.

Clerkley said she now looks up to many of the teammates she met there, because she has things to learn from them and they have things to learn from her.

With not having played or knowing her teammates and coach prior to the game, Clerkley said they had to play “real basketball” and make decisions only when they got possession of the ball.

Her parents and her younger brother went to Indianapolis with her to watch her play.

Clerkley also said that she received many texts from friends and family congratulating her on the game, but she said that some boys at school jokingly told her they were still better than her.

In the future, Clerkley said she hopes to play college basketball at Michigan State University and then continue on to the WNBA.
