Capital City Film Festival Enters Sixth Year

Capital City Film Festival
Enters
Sixth Year

LANSING - Six years ago, three Lansing-area filmmakers were inspired to create their own film festival for the Lansing area.

"Why don't we start a film festival? We can promote the great films that we know are going on in Michigan," said Jason Gabriel, video programmer and co-founder.

That festival is entering its seventh year. In its first year the festival struggled to secure 150 entrants. This year saw 650 entrees, with over 70 playing.

"Its not very often red carpet comes to Lansing," said Nicole Szymczak, board president and co-founder.

The Capital City Film Fest begins this Wednesday, April 6, with its official grand kick-off happening Thursday night with a red carpet event at the Lansing Brewing Company. The following days will see programming played across Lansing. Locations include the Lansing Center, Impression 5, the Surveyor's Museum, Old Town Temple, and the festival's headquarters at the Lansing Public Media Center.

While the festival does require tickets, Impression 5 is offering its viewings for free all Saturday.
