East Lansing Puts Waverly on Waivers,
57-41, Advances to Regionals

LANSING - Lansing Waverly played host to the district title game, but it was the East Lansing Lady Trojans who captivated the court once again defeating the Warriors, 57-41, to advance to regionals.

Point guard Taryn McCutcheon continued her torrid run, scoring a game-high 27 points, none more impressive than a buzzer-beating, deep three-pointer to close the third quarter. East Lansing head coach Rob Smith stood right behind McCutcheon as the ball snapped the net and hugged her with the buzzer still beating.

McCutcheon's knack for the improbable in this tournament has led to memorable on-court celebrations by the spirited senior, showing just how quickly she had adjusted to her new team and community. A Michigan State recruit, McCutcheon transferred to East Lansing High School mid-season and looks right at home.

"I've been around this team for about two-and-a-half, three months," McCutcheon said after the district title victory. "It's not all about basketball. It's about being together, so that's very exciting."

"I couldn't ask for a better team. They treat me like family."

The girls' playoff run continues against Battle Creek Lakeview this Tuesday, 6 p.m., at Mason High School.
