MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - At a recent Township board meeting. The board voted yes on the street tree ordinance.

The ordinance will allow for Deciduous trees to be located five feet back from the curb. The placing of street trees will help with things such as car pollution, and the with the overall speeding of drivers.

Township Treasurer, Julie Brixie views the ordinance as a positive improvement to the township and will help the community in many ways.

"It reduces global warming, it reduces heat island effect, it produces oxygen, it cleans up the air from the petroleum pollutants that are coming out of the exhaust of the cars. Trees really add a huge benefit to our community," Brixie.

The ordinance will go into effect 30 days after the publication.
