Deficit, Slays Sexton, 46-40

OKEMOS - Okemos overcame a 2-point second quarter performance to slay Carlton Valentine's Lansing Sexton, 46-40, Tuesday night in the O-Zone.

Suffering from a 13-point deficit at halftime, Okemos clamped down on defense, allowing just four points in the third quarter.

"I think we kind of had a heart-to-heart at halftime about our effort level and what toughness really mean," Okemos head coach Jeff Wonch said after the win. "I thought the guys responded really well, and it's the kind of team I have. They do respond well, and they are a bunch of good kids."

The Chiefs outscored Sexton, 32-13, in the second half, putting them back into the win column.

"It's always nice to get a win, and if we can get that to carry over into any of these games in the Blue, then it's a good thing," Wonch said.

Okemos hosts its third straight this Friday against Jackson (7-9) at 7:30 p.m.
