Demolition Begins on Meridian Township's
Former Central Fire Station

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Demolition of Meridian Township's former Central Fire Station located on Clinton Street in Downtown Okemos began on December 8th.

Asbestos removal was done prior to the building being torn down.

Township officials closed the former Central Fire Station in February 2014 due to the deterioration of the building and employee safety concerns. The station was built in 1957.

The property was sold on October 7th to developer Kris Elliott from Evergreen Companies. Elliott has plans to redevelop the property with a restaurant and some sort of residential component.

A new Central Fire Station is currently under construction and is expected to open in January 2016 with a ribbon cutting ceremony scheduled for February 1, 2016.
