MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Three Downtown Okemos local businesses have joined the Meridian Cares movement. Douglas J Salons, VIE yoga::barre::spa and Okemos Ace Hardware have given a gift basket towards the raffle drawing.

“We know our community cares about its most vulnerable residents. When we come together to show support for our neighbors, it shows we care and that’s what the Meridian Cares program is all about,” stated Township Manager Frank Walsh.

The value of gift baskets donated towards the raffle drawing has reached nearly $1,400. From local businesses like these to Comcast Regional to Kitch Attorneys out of Detroit, businesses that work with Meridian are taking part in this important campaign.

Raffle tickets can be purchased at Meridian Township and winners do not need to be present to win. Tickets are being sold for $10 each or 3 for $20. There are nearly 30 chances to win prizes from premium Red Wing Hockey tickets, Michigan beer basket, Yoga studio time, Playmakers gift card and more.

“At the end of the day, it is about taking care of the emergency needs for people who need it. We don’t want anyone to be evicted or go without heat. A lot of people don’t realize that about 5,000 people live below the poverty level. The Meridian Cares program helps raise awareness and take care of our residents,” stated Darla Jackson, Human Services Specialist.

Wieland-Davco donated $500 last week and more financial donations are needed. “We’ve raised $2,220 so far and need another $,7780 to meet our goal to cover the needs of our residents for 2016,” Jackson said.

Businesses who wish to make a financial contribution or gift basket donation toward the raffle drawing can do so by contacting the Meridian Cares Campaign Team and Darla Jackson at jackson@meridian.mi.us or 517.853.4204.
