Holiday Shopping Caution

UPDATE: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - As the holiday season quickly approaches, people are busy buying gifts for their family and friends.

Rachel Gibson is one of them. She says she will get toys for her son and gift cards for her parents. Giving gift cards seems easy because of its versatility.

It is convenient to shoppers to get gift cards and be done with their Christmas checklist, but gift cards are also an easy target for criminals, especially in the holiday season.

Fraud investigator at the Meridian Township Police Department, Aaron Hubbard says, gift cards are one of the top ways people are purchasing with stolen credit cards. It is easy target because gift cards are the closest thing to cash for criminals to steal.

Criminals look inside cars for exposed valuables whether it is parked in your drive way or at a parking lot.

So the best way to prevent vehicle larceny is to put your valuables out of plain sight. Hiding spots include under the seat or in the trunk.

To enjoy this year's holiday shopping, always remember to keep your belongings on you at all time.
