Possible Changes Coming to 2015 Deer Management Plan in Meridian Township

Possible Changes Coming to 2015 Deer
Management Plan in Meridian Township

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - There have been discussion on possible changes regarding the Deer Management Plan in Meridian Township for 2015. Since it was confirmed that there were cases of CWD in some of Meridian Township's deer, some alterations have to be made in order to continue the harvest.

Since the cases of CWD were confirmed, Meridian Township was not able to secure a processor for the deer this year. The proposed updates would allow hunters to process their own deer, and get them checked for CWD. This way, the harvest can continue like normal.

However, Jane Greenway, the Parks and Land Management Coordinator, points out a downside to these new updates.

Because Meridian Township cannot find an official deer processor, they will no longer be able to donate the deer meat to organizations against hunger.

"Unfortunately, we probably, at this point, will not be able to have the donation component of our program," stated Greenway.

Official decisions about this updated plan will have to be made by the Township Board.
