Medical Marihuana Recommendation for Township Discussed at Planning Commission Meeting

Medical Marihuana Recommendation for
Township Discussed at Planning
Commission Meeting

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - At this week's Planning Commission, the Commission considered the legality of the location of where medical marihuana can be grown in Meridian Township.

The Commission had numerous concerns, especially regarding the proximity of growth and use of medical marihuana to children in the area. The Commission was worried the effect of secondhand smoke would harm the youth in the community.

"This ordinance has no protection children...I would recommend it be denied," said Commissioner Honicky.

Some commissioners were concerned that there would be a possibility for an increase in crime attributed to the controlled substance.

Signage for where medical marijuana would be sold would be controlled under this ordinance. The signs would have to be non-illuminated.

The Commission ultimately had a lot of questions regarding the ordinance, and decided they needed to do more research in order to reach a decision for recommendation.
