Meridian Fire Hosted Annual Golf
Scramble For Muscular Dystrophy
Association

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Every year Meridian Firefighters help raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association by hosting two events.

Their Fill-the-Boot event was hosted last weekend July 24th-26th in Downtown Okemos.

This week they continued there efforts by hosting their annual golf scramble at College Fields on Friday July 31st, 2015.

Tickets for the golf outing were $70 per person and included lunch and drink tickets.

Meridian Firefighter/Paramedic John McDermott was one of the many people in charge of hosting the event and said he believed they had about 60 people register for the event.

McDermott said, "We do this every year, anybody can golf in this. You don't have to be a golfer it's just a lot of fun. We have a lot of non-golfers out here today and it's just a blast! Golf outings are great!"

McDermott went on to say they haven't counted all the money to include the proceeds from the golf outing that they've raised for Muscular Dystrophy Association this year, but so far they're right around $15,000.

Meridian, Delhi and Lansing's Fire Department's have a goal to reach $20,000 this year with all their efforts combines.

If you missed the golf outing and the Fill-the-Boot events you could still have a chance to donate. McDermott said that Meridian Fire is hoping to host one more day for Fill-the-Boot in order to reach this year's goal.
