New Street Signs for Meridian's Only
Heritage Neighborhood

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Cedar Bend Heights recently received new signs for their designated Heritage Neighborhood and were installed by the Ingham County Road Department.

Meridian Township Engineer Ray Severy explains the significance of Heritage Neighborhoods.

"I think it's more than just saying it's a Heritage Neighborhood. It's been there a long time, it's one of the first neighborhoods in Okemos," said Severy.

Signage is importantt to be recognized as a Heritage Neighborhood.

"They actually had Heritage Neighborhood signs erected on the street name signs and most of those are faded to the point you can't read them anymore. So one of the residents asked what we could do about it so we get some new signs in there," said Severy.

The ordinance regarding Heritage Neighborhoods states that at least one-third of the residential building must be at least 40 years before being eligible for the Heritage Neighborhood.

The bulk of the new signs are along Hamilton Road, Kent Street, and Kenmore Drive.
