Vikings Aiming to Improve at Annual
Summer Football Camp

HASLETT - Haslett High School held their annual summer football camp this week as the Vikings prepared for the upcoming season.

The camp lasted three days from July 21-23 and was held at the Haslett Football practice field. The camp was divided by age group with one camp consisting of grades 2-7 and another camp with grades 8-12.

Haslett coaches focused on individual improvement among players at this year's camp, while Haslett Head Coach Charlie Otlewski was looking for improvement on the small details.

"We gear all our practice time at how do we get ourselves better individually," said Otlewski. "Concepts will come, but we want guys to become better football players each day."

Meanwhile Senior Quarterback Jake Tahaney is looking to bounce back from an injury-plagued season that cost him six games. Tahaney had shoulder surgery this off-season and is currently rehabbing.

"There has been a couple bumps in the road," said Tahaney. "But I'm getting back to where I want to be, so I still have a little ways to go before I'm back to 100%."

One hurdle that the Vikings will face this season is a schedule that is loaded with road games. The 2015 season features six games on the road including games against CAAC Red division rivals Mason, St. John's and Waverly. Only time will tell whether Haslett can improve on last year's 4-5 record and get back to the state playoffs.

The Vikings will begin the season August 27 as they travel to Chippewa Hills High School to face the Warriors.
