Meridian Township Residents Have the
Opportunity to Add Their Touch to The
Land Preserves

OKEMOS - Meridian Township has over 750 acres of land preserves, and they want to give some of them a new name.

There are 19 total preserves, the remaining eight were donated to the Township and received the name of their donor. Only the preserves purchased by the Township will be renamed.

The Land Preservation Board felt that the preserves should have more clever names and will be having a renaming contest this summer.

"We are going to be conducting a Facebook contest on the Meridian Township website and social media where people can enter their suggestions and the Land Preservation Board will take all of suggestions and weight which ones they like the best," said Parks and Land Management Coordinator, Jane Greenway.

Residents can come up with creative names that are related to the preserve such as something natural that is found there or a historic factor related to the preserve.

The Township will be starting with five land preserves and each week a different preserve will receive a new name.
