Water and Sewer Board Meet to Discuss
Last Year

EAST LANSING - The East Lansing-Meridian Water and Sewer Authority recently held their annual business meeting at their facility on Burcham Dr. in East Lansing.

During the meeting, several topics were discussed. Among them was the annual water usage report for the fiscal year 2014-15. During this report, it was stated that neither Meridian Township or the City of East Lansing purchased the agreed upon minimum amount of water, being 56.16% for Meridian Township and 43.84% for East Lansing. According to ELMW&S Manager Clyde Dugan, this can be largely attributed to above-average precipitation and efforts of water conservation.

"Neither community met that minimum because the demands were low throughout the year," said Dugan. When asked how many of the past years the two communities had met the minimum, Dugan responded, "None, none in the last five years."

Also discussed at the meeting were issues of general upkeep and improvements for the ELMW&S Authority, including the possibility of adding an additional water discharge path into Meridian township. This would allow the Authority to continue providing adequate amounts of water to Meridian Township in case one of the two existing discharges were to fail.
