Two Meridian Township Summer Employees
Recognized For Helping Save Labrador
Retriever

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - A casual walk in the park with her dog "Redd" quickly went bad for Mary Portice.

Portice noticed Redd was having trouble breathing and he soon went into respiratory distress.

Portice unable to carry the Labrador Retriever back to her car, left Redd with a friend who was accompanying them and ran to get help.

As soon as she was off the trail she noticed two Meridian Township summer maintenance employees, Zachary Reid and Graham Riley, coming down the sidewalk in a golf cart.

Portice said, "I motioned to them, I probably screamed to them; My dog is dying please come help! Did not hesitate, did not hesitate. Dropped everything that they were doing, were not concerned what the consequences might have been for them."

The two gentlemen helped Portice get Redd back to her car and into the hospital where he received medical treatment for 4 hours.

Redd and the Portice family recognized Reid and Riley's act of kindness and expressed their appreciation during a special presentation at the Township Board Meeting on July 7th.

During the presentation Portice said Redd would not be alive today without the help of Reid and Riley.
