Lansing Lugnuts Come Undone in Late
Inning Letdown, 8-5, to Lake County

LANSING - The Lansing Lugnuts capped a four game meeting with the Lake County Capitals of East Lake, Ohio, Sunday afternoon at Cooley Law.

Once down, 5-1, Lake County tied things up by the ninth inning and did not stop there.

With men on first and second, the leadoff hitter for the Captains, Greg Allen, came up and did his job moving Yonathan Mendoza to third on the fly out.

Then, the Lugnuts came entirely undone as reliever Jose Fernandez went for the pickoff on speedster Ordomar Valdez at first base.

Fernandez caught Valdez on the move but Valdez beat the throw to second from first anyways, and just like that, the unthinkable happened.

From third, Mendoza went for the heads-up play to go for home.

He stole the bag and the lead from the Lugnuts in a mere moment.

Next up, right fielder Bobby Ison drove a hanging, yet routine fly ball, but the Lugnuts center fielder D.J. Davis botched it with a misplayed jump and insurance came in for the Captains.

Lake County complete a, 7-0, run to beat the Lugnuts, 8-5, and left Lansing with a split on the series.
