2nd Annual Landing Blitz Raises Invasive
Species Awareness

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - As part of Aquatic Invasive Species Awareness Week, the Michigan DEQ has sponsored the second annual Landing Blitz. In Meridian Township, the Landing Blitz is taking place at the Lake Lansing boat launch.

"Many people don't know, but there could be particles or something stuck to your boat after going from a big lake to a small lake like this that could inhabit this lake and cause an invasive species epidemic," said Ingham County Parks boat launch attendant Maxwell Novak.

In addition to being on site at the boat launch and telling people about the aquatic invasive species awareness week and Landing Blitz, Novak also handed out goodies including can koozies and stickers to further raise awareness for this issue.

The Landing Blitz runs from June 26 through July 5 at Lake Lansing, with volunteers from Meridian Township going to the lake on June 28th and 29th to help spread the word about invasive species prevention.
