Erickson Learning Center Was Demolished
to Make Room for New Townhomes

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - What was formally the Erickson Learning Center will eventually become the new Fedewa Townhomes.

The Erickson Learning Center was demolished on June 4th.

According to the Meridian Township Department of Community Planning and Development, there's only a demo permit for the property and the actual building permit has not yet been applied for.

Residential builder Jerry Fedewa will be applying for the permit to build the the 5-unit townhouses in that location.

Associate Planner Martha Wyatt said she believes these new townhouse will be rented, not owned properties.

With no permit, no construction schedule has been set. Once approved for the permit, the project is projected to around 6 to 9 months before it is complete.

Not far from the site, another building was demolished on June 9th. An old home near the roundabout on Hamilton Road was torn down. Before it was demolished, the property owner allowed the Meridian Township Fire Department to use the site to train for bailout and self-rescue situations.

At this time, no permits or applications have been submitted for what could possibly be built on that property.
