Okemos Lacrosse Handles Haslett, 19-5,
for First Ever Regional Title

OKEMOS - Okemos lacrosse shutdown Haslett, 19-0, in the last regular season meeting between teams.

A couple goals to start this one, and it looked business as usual in this regional finals match-up.

But then, Haslett did something not done in the previous meeting. The Vikings scored a goal, and the team erupted with excitement.

They score another before the end of the first, and Okemos' lead is cut down, 4-2.

Starting the second, Haslett scores again, down, 4-3, and this one looked to be a game.

But Chiefs fans did not fear for long, the high-flyers get their juggernaut offense going, winning ground ball battles the rest of the way. Okemos could not be stopped, winning 19-5, en route to its first regional title in school history.

"The kids at the beginning of the year had goals, one was to win the league, then our tournament, and then they wanted to go to the final four," Okemos Head Coach Shawn Grady said.

Bennett Sherman and Charlie Ciuk led the team with four goals each, and Blake Grewal-Turner followed with three himself.

"When we can go there is not a team that can stop us," Grady said. "We love to play showtime lacrosse."

Now in the state's final four, the boys play against East Grand Rapids at 6pm, June 3, at Grandville High School.
