Spring Farmers Market Opens on May 2nd

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Meridian Township saw its first Spring Farmers' Market outdoors on May 2nd. More than thirty vendors joined the market with their home-grown or home-made products.

With the cooperative sunny weather, many people found the township farmers' market a good weekend destination. The place was filled with gentle music and various food and produce, such as wild-caught fish, freshly made popcorn, and organic vegetables.

Sandra Stone, a vegetable vendor from Haslett, says her family has been running business in the farmers' market for more than 40 years. And they grow vegetables in an environmental safe way, using chemicals not harmful to human bodies. “These (vegetables) pretty much we brought back from Florida last week. So they are fresh. We bought right from the farmers before we came back,” she said.

Joel Holland, the “coffee guy” in the farmers’ market said, “The market is great. It’s got a great atmosphere. It brings people together. in supermarkets you just go, buy your stuff and you leave, but at the farmers' market, you interact with friends. There is music. You talk to strangers. You just strike a conversation with anyone. And you get really nice home grown products. Home-made, organic... you just have high quality here.”

The Spring Farmers’ Market runs through June 27th. It opens every Saturday from 8 am to 2 pm in the Meridian Township Pavilion.
