MDOT Cable Barrier Project

MDOT Cable Barrier Project

UPDATE: OKEMOS - Residents driving down Interstate 96 between US-127 and Okemos Road, they may notice some new construction along the highway.

The Michigan Department of Transportation is looking for ways to improve safety for the State's motorists including the installation of high tension cables. MDOT'S Kari Arend believes they will not only help save lives but also be more efficient.

"A metal cable rail that strings between the different posts along the median. So if people hit that, unless they actually break the barrier itself, we can simply just restring and retension that line as opposed to replacing the entire section of guard rail"

Arend went on to say that this is part of a three year program across the state and that more guard rails can be expected across the State within the next year.
