Okemos and Haslett Split Saturday
Doubleheader

HASLETT - Okemos and Haslett baseball faced off in a Saturday doubleheader on April 18.

Okemos started off hot in game one, raking up hit after hit and taking advantage of some Haslett defensive errors.

By the en of the first inning, the Chiefs held an 11-1 lead over the Vikings.

Okemos continued to pile on the damage throughout the contest, winning13-3 in a five-inning game shortened by the mercy rule.

Game was a bit of a different story.

No runs scored until the third inning of the second game when the Chiefs' Devon Tubben was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make for a 1-0 Okemos lead.

Haslett came back to tie it up in the fifth when a groundout from Hayden Cross plated a run.

The Vikings would later score another in the bottom of the sixth, but Okemos was quick to respond thanks to some timely hitting by Jake Faustyn and Conner George and the game went into extras locked at 2.

A costly baserunning error by Okemos in extras gave Haslett their chance in the bottom of the 10th.

The Vikings would win it 3-2 on a walkoff single by Luke Sleeper, accompanied of course by a celebration at the plate.

For their next games, Okemos will travel to Mason on the 20th, while Haslett faces Grand Ledge at home on the 21st.
