Residents Encouraged to Wear Red to
Raise Awareness For Heart Disease

LANSING - Friday, February 6th is National Wear Red Day. The Okemos branch of the American Heart Association is encouraging everyone to wear red to bring awareness to heart disease.

Heart disease is the number one killer of women. Looking to gain support from residents in mid-Michigan, this nonprofit uses February as national heart month as an opportunity to promote heart health to women. Not smoking, having good eating habits, and exercising regularly can help reduce your risks.

"Typically across the nation, there are different events going on to celebrate the event and to bring awareness to the cause. So we ask again that everyone wear red and we invite them to go on their social media profiles and change their pictures, hashtag go red (#gored), hashtag go red lansing (#goredlansing) or your local market to bring awareness to heart disease," said Amber Beard, Communications Assistant at the American Heart Association.

Representatives from the Heart Association will be at the Women's Expo at the Lansing Center on Friday wearing red with information on how you can get involved.

A casting call, fashion show & an auction will all be held at the Women's Expo starting at 10am.
