Township Forges the Way for Cleaner
Energy Powered by Consumers

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Representatives from Consumers Energy are proposing a pilot program to select sites to be used in an upcoming consumer solar park.

Nancy Popa, Manager of Renewable Resources at Consumer Energy, visited the Township Board meeting on January 20th looking to gain approval to move forward with the next step.

"We want to work with interested communities & find a community that is supportive and we think there is enough enrollment and enter into some type of agreement for property and that type of thing and then solicit enrollment from our customers," Popa said.

Consumers Energy would take care of installation and maintenance, all they require is for interested customers to enroll online and subscribe to a host site that should be available January of next year.

The implementation of solar energy used to fuel cars and homes is moving the Township one step closer to practicing cleaner forms of energy.
